Group Therapy: Information for the Public

Group Therapy

Our group therapy programme is suitable for adults aged 18 and over with depression and anxiety disorders in the mild to moderate range. If you think group therapy may be right for you please get in touch. We will then ask you to seek a referral from your family doctor (GP)

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our group therapy programme will use both in-person and online formats. If you are fully vaccinated you can choose either in-person or online. If you are not fully vaccinated you can take part in an on-line group.

Groups will run in the evenings for two hours with a break in the middle. As the therapy protocol only has four sessions, it is important that you attend every session. If you are unable to attend one, it would be best to wait for another opportunity for therapy. We hope to begin in early 2022

The fee for participating in this group is $490 for four 2-hour sessions.

Places in our group will be limited to 10 participants. Due to the nature of this work, our groups are not suitable for people with a significant degree of risk to themselves or others, active substance use problems, or who have significant difficulties relating to others.

Why try Group Therapy?

There has been a significant increase in demand for high quality psychological therapy. In response to this, we need to explore different options for providing therapy. Group therapy is one option. Group therapy has been shown to be at least as effective as individual therapy in treating a wide range of mental health difficulties. Group therapy is also cheaper and can be made available to a larger group of people.

Our group therapy protocol is based on Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT), a well-established treatment protocol with a solid evidence base showing its effectiveness in a relatively short-time.

As we are committed to providing high quality care, we will assess the effectiveness of our group therapy. For this reason, we will ask you to complete some questionnaires measuring improvements and your level of satisfaction with the group therapy process. These questionnaires will be provided prior to beginning and at the end of four sessions.
