I am Amanda Baird, a Registered Clinical Psychologist living and working in Christchurch, New Zealand.
My blog post So, what’s a Clinical Psychologist then? describes the work my colleagues and I do.
I work with adults aged 18 and over and I am part of the team at Christchurch PsychMed, a clinic in St Albans consisting of Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists and two super-star Administrators. I am also able to provide Professional Development and Supervision services. I describe my Clinical Practice in greater detail here.
I know there is significant unmet need for Mental Health services in our community. In response I have collated two collections of mental health resources which I routinely recommend, for COVID 19 specifically, and for mental health distress generally.
I am currently unavailable to see new clients. I hope to have availability for new clients in June 2023.
A Brief Bio
I studied at the University of Otago between 1996 and 2004, completing a Masters of Science (with Distinction) in Psychology and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology. In 2004 I moved to Wellington where I worked with the Department of Corrections and then the local District Health Board. During this time I began in private practice, initially as a consultant for the Corrections Department. Following the birth of our daughter in 2008, I was keen to return home to Christchurch. Back in Christchurch I worked for the Otago University Medical School in Christchurch as a therapist on a research trial investigating effective therapies for Depression. I moved into private practice following the birth of our son in 2011.
